With this piece Dominic Wilcox succeeded to make a piece that has a voice of it's own, not just a passive lifeless thing. The soldier toys represent something of a paradox. On one hand they are a fun childhood toy that brings back happy memories and on the other, they were a representation of war with it's associated horrors. This is a contrast that is slightly uneasy. The bowl is made from high-quality melted plastic toy soldiers. Each colour is made of figures from two opposing armies during a particular historical conflict. Blue: Waterloo, White: English Civil war, Red: Zulu War.
